Yesterday, several women got talking about the kind of exercise they get, what they have been up to lately, and so on. You know how it goes.
Someone mentioned she had been walking with friends, going up to the summit of Mount Warburton Pike, which was a new adventure to her. Someone else said, "I'd like to try that!" And a third person said, "And I know about this other trail, and that other hike," and so on.
So the idea grew, and it looks like there is enough interest and enthusiasm to sustain this on a weekly basis... Think about it: every week, a different destination and a walk with a group of friendly women.
So, a walking (or hiking) club is born. This Saturday, on our inaugural trip, we will walk to the summit of Mount Warburton Pike. This hike is approximately 4 kms and follows the park road. It's a pleasant hour's walk each way in a coastal Douglas Fir forest, and culminates with beautiful views of islands in the distance, the Campbell farm and the Saturna Family Vineyard below. Depending on the weather, we will spend some time at the top and we might just catch sight of the feral goats that hang around up there.
Please be assured that this walk is not a competition. We are just going to walk up... and down, admiring the trees, the wild flowers, the views, and chatting all the way. Just to be on the safe side, allow three hours for this outing. And oh, do bring a rain jacket.
Rendez-vous: 1 pm, in the parking area on Harris Road, at the turnoff for Staples Road, below Money Lake. Carpool, if you can, because parking space is limited... and very muddy.
Leashed dogs are welcome!
What's next? This is short notice. Several women, who have other things on the go this Saturday, said they wanted to be kept in the loop about future outings.
So, for those of you who would like to come on future walks, let's just say that among other interesting excursions, we will probably try the Narvaez Bay area. We will allow enough time for a picnic, and for some exploring of the pebble beach... and of course, for admiring the views.
Here's a snapshot of the Narvaez bay road, in all its meandering glory.
