May 10th, Winter Cove & Veruna Beach Loop

Winter Cove & Veruna Beach Walk (3+ km)

Saturday, May 10 - Rendez-vous at 1 pm
At the Winter Cove parking lot.
Bring water and a snack.

Wear good walking shoes and bring a jacket (like Mom used to say...).

This is a walk on flat grade, with a section of rocky outcrop (if you want to get close to Boat Pass - see picture above). We plan to walk the loop trail, which follows the beach, the shoreline and goes through the forest. We will then continue on Winter Cove Road and Church Lane, to Veruna Beach. After some time on the beach, we will return to the Winter Cove parking lot.

According to the tide tables, the tide should be on its way down in the afternoon. We will have time to take a close look at the critters and birds that inhabit the shore and the cove. We may see some otters, who knows? And for those of us who like to look at flowers and woodland plants, this is a great time to visit Winter Cove, and admire the Fawn lilies (Erythronium oregonum).

This is an easy two-hour walk (a little over 3 km), with lots of time for beachcombing and dawdling time...

See you there!

Advance Notice: Next week's walk (a hike, really) will be more challenging. On May 17, we plan to hike to Taylor Point, returning via the Campbell Farm (permission has been granted, for which we are very thankful). Because this is a 5-hours+ hike, we will start earlier, probably at 10 am. Stay tuned for more details...
