East Point Hike (2 km) - Saturday, May 31
Rendez-vous at 1 pm
At the end of East Point Road.
Bring water and a lunch or snack.
Hiking shoes or good walking shoes are a must. Binoculars are not a bad idea!
This is an easy two-hour walk, with a little bit of scrambling over rocks, plus picnic and photo time...
The hike will start at the parking area at the end of East Point Road. The 30-minute drive (from the General Store) along East Point Road is lovely, take the time to enjoy it. We will hike the paths through the meadow to the shoreline and take a close look at Boiling Reef (seals, eagles and other birds, etc.).

After this first part, we'll go over to the other side and have a good look at the amazing rocks along the shore facing the San Juan islands. There is a good possibility of seeing seals or porpoises feeding very close to shore. We'll choose a good picnic spot on the rocks and enjoy a break, then return to the cars along the path.

A description taken from the Gulf Islands National Park website:
Set on sculpted sandstone cliffs, East Point became part of the national park reserve in 2006. Built between 1881 and 1887, the lightstation located here warned sailors away from the roiling waters of Boiling Reef just offshore. Nutrient-rich upwellings in this vicinity attract marine mammals and seabirds, providing excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.

See you this Saturday, at 1 pm!
