Fiddler's Cove Hike - June 14

Fiddler’s Cove - Short and Steep, but Sweet!
Saturday, June 14
Rendez-vous at 1 pm,
at the corner of Fiddler Road and Cliffside Road

Bring water (1 L is not too much) and lunch or a snack,
and wear good hiking shoes.

Please Note: Dogs are NOT allowed on this hike.

We thank the Tsawout Band for granting us permission to hike this trail, which is on First Nation land.

While this is not a long hike, it's a steep one. Allow 2.5 hours, so we'll have time to enjoy a picnic at the beach, some exploring of the rocks, and take it easy - in stages - on the way up, back to our cars...

The hike will start at the parking area at the end of Fiddler Road, at Cliffside Road. Please note that it's a 30-minute drive (from the General Store) along East Point Road to Fiddler Road, where you'll turn right up the hill, to the end.

From the top of the cliff, where the views are magnificent, we will follow the trail through a coastal forest, down to the sand and pebble beach.

The tide will be at the half way point in the afternoon, so we will look for colourful creatures that hide in rock crevices, like this California sea cucumber.

Wind and water have also played with the rocks around here and there are also lots of interesting rock formations to admire.

It's a wonderful hike and we will come back up from the Cove in stages, to give everyone a chance to catch their breath. If you can handle a couple of stairways at a time, you should be able to join us. None of us are marathon runners...

Hope to see you this Saturday!
